Adenoma
A benign tumor made up of glandular tissue. For example, an adenoma of the pituitary gland may cause it to produce abnormal amounts of hormones.
Adenocarcinoma
A malignant tumor arising from glandular tissue.
Adjuvant
Pharmacological or immunological agents that modify the effect of other agents (drugs, vaccines) while having few if any direct effects when given by themselves.
Asbestos
A natural material that is made of tiny fibers. Asbestos can cause several serious diseases, including cancer.
Benign
A condition, tumor, or growth that is NOT cancerous. This means that it does not spread to other parts of the body or destroy nearby tissue. Benign tumors usually grow slowly.
Bone Marrow
The soft and spongy center of the bones where blood cells are made.
